The 755-HP Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Not-a-Mama-Rental-Car

1956 Corvette Street Racer

While we could dream of renting the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 from Avis or Hertz, the truth is more likely we could not. Why would they want to move away from the pure porridge they rent out. And as for their collision damage waivers, you must be kidding. There are times when they are not worth the paper they are printed on. The 755-HP Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is something totally different.

The 755-HP Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Has a Noble Heritage

The Chevy Corvette is in its seventh generation now, although our hearts still ache for the 1956 Convertible. Its optional fuel injection made it the first car to achieve one-horse-power-per-cubic-inch, and it came with a hybrid vacuum tube / transistor radio too. Ah, how we longed to take a ride in one of those, and let the 283-HP motor rip.

The all-new 755-HP Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 for 2019 will ‘warp your perception of speed’ according to Road & Track. Its 715 torques take it to 215 miles per hour. If you do not believe us check out the video, and get back to ground soon.

Oh wow, that was really something. The beast’s internals include a supercharged 6.2-liter V8. The Road & Track reviewer described the sound coming out the pipes as a ‘glorious bass note’, rising to a screech once the rumbling idle reaches a roar. Stats include 0 to 60-MPH in 2.8 seconds. If you drive one, be grateful the fifteen-inch Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes have a racing specification to handle the power.

Can I Rent One from Avis, Hertz, or the Fellow Down the Road?

Unfortunately our reply is no, not at this stage. Perhaps someday Chevrolet will invent an electric, self-driving version that’s even faster and more powerful, but you may have to wait a few years. If, and when you do get around to hiring one please check the collision damage waiver first. Because you may have no protection at all in the event you bump this beauty, and spares will be expensive.
