Lamborghini Huracán Rarin' to Go
The law generally assumes the owner of a vehicle was driving it at a particular time. Unless, of course, there is compelling proof another person was. This is one of the hidden risks rental companies bear. Although they don’t bear the contingent costs though. We, the gullible customers foot the bill in their exorbitant fees.
Take the Case of the Lamborghini Huracán for Example
While Dubai is the capital city of excesses, you would still need to be a nutter for renting one of these supercars out. They hit 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and go as fast as 212 mph on a straight. And the price? Well, if you need to know you probably can’t afford it and we'll leave it there.
A certain British tourist hired a Lamborghini Huracán in Dubai earlier this week, after leaving his passport as a guarantee. Then he set off on a four-hour romp later that evening, in the course of which he clocked up $47,600 dollars of speeding fines, give or take a couple of dirham notes.
Clearly wanting to impress, he chose one of Dubai’s busiest streets, Sheikh Zayed Road, and set off every camera at speeds up to 150 mph. Needless to say the local constabulary were unimpressed. They pronounced the rental car firm was liable for the citations. Because their customer was a tourist and it costs an arm and a leg to haul them back to face the music.
Dubai Car Rental Company Waves a Yellow Card
We have yet to come across a car rental company that likes to spend its own money. This was no exception. The car has gone walkabout but they were not attempting to recall it at the time of writing. The local broadsheet The National quotes a company spokesperson bewailing:
"We can't pay this amount should the car be taken into impound, it's still with the tourist, parked at his hotel... and I won't be trying to take it back. Then who pays the money for the impound? We shouldn't do so for sure, it's his fault and he should pay that amount," he added.
This Could Never Happen with Bonzah
We suspect the tourist may have already left the country on a temporary passport. Who knows, he may even have several different ones to play with. Bonzah will never risk your money by renting exotic cars like Lamborghini Huracáns.
We keep our rental car insurance rates low thanks to a unique business proposition that is good, brilliant, well executed, and one-of-a-kind. Don’t you wish your other insurers put their customers first? Now that would make everybody’s day.
